THE “NO MORE” AND THE RENOUNCE TO FORGET LINK OF MANY MEMORIAL ANS SITES OF CONSCIENCE MUSEUMS OF THE WORLD

The thousands of kilometers from numerous museums in the world, are not a real distance when there is a coordinated work among them. Example of this claim is that these days an international meeting brings together many specialists, museum curators, museum directors around the world, as in the case of the Gernika Peace Museum, meet in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) to discuss on “Memory and Justice: How Museums, Archives and Historical Memory Centers contribute to the democratic development of society”.

For a week, invited by the newly opened Memorial Museum of the Dominican Resistance, specialists in the field, will meet to address the contribution of these museums, memorials, that seek to remember a difficult past, providing clues for a better future, building a more just and democratic society.

Many speakers will let us know the terrible period of the dictatorship of Trujillo in the Dominican Republic, as we speak, many others, the work of recovering the memory of the Holocaust, the recovery of the historical memory in the Southern Cone and Condor Operation and  the recovery of Historical Memory on the Spanish Civil War and Franco’s dictatorship.

The Gernika Peace Museum Director (Iratxe Momoitio), the Director of the Center for Historical Memory in Salamanca (Maria José Turrión) and the Vice Director of the Archives of Madrid (Antonio Gonzalez Quintana) and Mr Julio Arostegui Complutense University of Madrid, will be responsible for tackling the issue on the Spanish Civil War, Franco and the recovery of historical memory of that period in Spain.

Representatives of the Terezin Memorial (Sr Jan Munk), Czech Rep, Historical Museum Oscar Schindler Factory in Krakow, Poland (Ms. Monika Bednarek) will speak about the Holocaust. And representatives of the following museums will talk about what happened both in the Dominican Republic in the Southern Cone  Condor Operation: Memorial Museum of Dominican Resistance Archive of the National Police of Guatemala (Sr Gustavo Meoño), National Museum of Memory and Human Rights in Chile (Ms Marcia Scantlebury), Museum of the Memory of Uruguay (Sr Elbio Ferrario), Museum of the Resistance of Sao Paulo, Brazil (Ms. Katia Filipini) and Memoria Abierta in Argentina (Ms Claudia Bacci) .

Meetings of the international networks of IC-MEMO, Sites of Conscience and Memory of the World by UNESCO will be held these days too.
