A NEW STEP FOR MUSEUMS FOR PEACE: THE BRIEF CONCLUSSIONS OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF MUSEUMS FOR PEACE

All these days without blogging has been due to the intense involvement of the  Gernika Peace Museum in the 7th International Conference of Museums for Peace that was hold from 4 to 7 May 2011 in Barcelona (www.museumsforpeace. org) thanks to the hospitality of the Barcelona International Peace Resource Center of the City of Barcelona and thanks to the work of Jordi Capdevila and his team (Eva, Stephen ..).

Intense but interesting days, in which,  after the video-welcome  of Federico Mayor Zaragoza encouraging us to continue our important work, we had the opportunity to delve into many topics such as the cities that work for peace, with examples of cities like Barcelona, San Sebastian and Granollers, through the wonderful presentations by local representatives and NGOs working for peace in Catalonia. We had the opportunity to meet new peace museums in different parts of the world (Sweden, Korea, United States Together ….)

Educational work in our museums (with examples such as the Peace Museum of Gernika), its value, its need were other important issues addressed in this conference together with the temporary and traveling exhibitions and design at the museums for peace.

Days that have inspired us, and that suppose a push in our mind to take the hard road of visibility of the museums for peace in the world.

Very soon, all of us  will enjoy reading and re-reading the proceedings of this conference that gathered a significant number of peace museums professionals throughout the world.
